Unitec DoMM staff to final awards dinner of Waitakere Enterprise Business Awards – October 2010

Friday night, 8 October was the final awards dinner of Waitakere Enterpise Business Awards. Some Unitec DoMM staff members were present at this night and saw how Professor Leon de Wet Fourie the Unitec prizes had given.

The Unitec prize for innovation associate went to Snitch Incorporated. Snitch is a company that understands technology and has a clear view on the future of its market. This innovative and determined technology company has carved out a strong slice of a competitive market. It has higher growth targets and the means to stay in front.

Snitch has been involved with a growing list of companies and individuals including The Radio Network – creating the Time Saver Traffic website – and Vodafone. The aim of Snitch Incorporated was to bring a low cost, high quality GPS tracking device to the market. This aim has been realised through rigorous development, testing, and sensible downcosting of the products.

The Unitec prize for Community and Volunteer Sector went to Piha Surf Life Saving Club. Piha Surf Life Saving Club is a great example of a club that delivers to the Community based on the good work of Volunteers, with a well-developed governance structure in place and strong business processes.
Situated on the stunning, yet demanding West Coast, the club has worked hard on diversifying its funding model to achieve long-term financial sustainability. It also has possibly the highest profile of any surf life saving club in New Zealand and one of the busiest patrols.
