Department of Management and Marketing: Student Satisfaction 2010

The Department of Management and Marketing was ranked second behind the Department of Performing and Screen Arts in the 2010 Unitec Student Union Annual Student Satisfaction survey for the Faculty. The  Department of Performing and Screen Arts was ranked No1 in Unitec. We estimate that the Department of Management and Marketing was ranked 5th Overall at Unitec.

So, we have satisfied students but we all in the department ask about how we can do better; email me at rdavis@unitec.ac.nz if you have ideas with can think about.

The satisfaction scale is as follows: Students were asked to what extend they agreed with certain statements – and able to answer on a five point scale: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree or strongly disagree.

GTS = Good Teaching Scale
Think about your programme as a whole and indicate the extent to which you agree or disagree with each statement about the teaching staff in your programme
1. The teaching staff normally give me helpful feedback on how I am going
2. The teaching staff of this programme motivate me to do my best work
3. The staff put a lot of time into commenting on my work
4. The teaching staff work hard to make their subjects interesting
5. My lecturers are extremely good at explaining things
6. The staff made a real effort to understand difficulties I might be having with my work
CGSS = Clear Goals and Standards Scale

1. I have a clear idea of where I am going and what is expected of me in this programme
2. The staff made it clear right from the start what they expected from students
3. It is always easy to know the standard of work expected
4. It was often hard to discover what was expected of me in this programme
AWS = Appropriate Workload Scale

statement about the workload of your programme
1. There is a lot of pressure on me as a student in this programme
The workload is too heavy
2. The sheer volume of work to be got through in this programme means that I am unable to thoroughly
comprehend it
3. I am generally given enough time to understand the things I am learning
AAS = Appropriate Assessment Scale

statement about assessments in your programme
1. Too many staff ask me questions just about facts
2. To do well in this programme all you really needed was a good memory
3. The assessment methods employed require an in depth understanding of the course content
4. The staff seem more interested in testing that I memorise than what I understand
